About Pets to Hawaii Originally from New England, I moved to Kona with my family in 2007. Unfamiliar with the quarantine regulations, making sure my pets could enter the state through the direct release program was a daunting task. Even with extensive experience in the veterinary field, I found the process frustrating as well as frightening. The prospect of leaving the east coast without guarantees my pets would follow was a nightmare. I have been a veterinary technician for ten years and still found the direct release program instructions vague and ambiguous. Thankfully, my two dogs and three cats made it safely to Hawaii and passed through the Honolulu quarantine station without any trouble. As a full time veterinary technician with Kona Veterinary Service as well as a fellow pet owner from the mainland, I am very familiar with the rules and regulations governing the quarantine requirements put forth by the Hawaiian Department of Agriculture. Let my experience make your experience of traveling to Hawaii with your pets safe and stress free. |
